Isle of Wight Events
The Isle of Wight does not only have a wide variety of visitor attractions, we also have a full diary of events. The list here really does not begin to scratch the surface. However, it does give a flavour of the depth and variety of what's on offer.
Walking Festival - 5th - 20th May
Choose from around 300 walks catering for all ages and abilities covering some of the island's 500 miles of signposted footpaths and 30 miles of Heritage Coastline.
Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival - 25th - 27th May
Traditional sailing boats, steam and motor vessels create a wonderful spectacle at Yarmouth Harbour. There are also a huge number of stalls and exhibits surrounding the harbour to keep you entertained from morning until night.
Isle of Wight Music Festival - 22nd - 24th June
Held at Seaclose Park near Newport this is now widely recognisd as the UK's major music festival. Acts already confirmed for 2012 include Elbow, Example, Tinie Tempah, Joan Armatrading and Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
JP Morgan Fleming Round the Island Yacht Race - 30th June
Over 1,600 boats take on this challenge. The best viewpoints are at The Needles, St. Catherine's Point and Bembridge.
Cowes Week - 11th - 18th August
Still the world's oldest and largest annual sailing regatta. Enjoy the competitive racing and the entertainment provided all along the shoreline through the day into the night. The world famous firework display on the final night (Friday) needs to be seen to be believed.
Isle of Wight Garlic Festival - 18th - 19th August
Celebrates the Island's position as the premier garlic growing region. The IOW Garlic Farm at Newchurch is well worth a visit any time of the year. This event brings together all things "garlic" from sausages and beer to ice-cream and traditional family entertainment, crafts and exhibits.
Bestival - 6th - 9th September
Held at Robin Hill Country Park this is a boutique, family-friendly, fun festival. Winner of the Best Major Festival Award 2010 and winner of the Fans' Favourite Festival Award at the 2011 UK Festival Awards. Line-up for 2012 coming soon......
Isle of Wight Cycling Festival - 22nd - 30th September
Suitable for all ages amd abilities. A variety of routes from gentle rides through some of the Island's picturesque villages to a 70-mile road route around the coastline.
